The ToonWare Categories for Speech and Language Therapy app offers a comprehensive suite of tools aimed at enhancing communication skills in children aged 3 to 7 years. It features 20 categories with over 230 high-quality images optimized for retina displays, accompanied by matching voice prompts. According to research by Gelman (1999), children learn to categorize objects within their environment, a critical skill that extends their knowledge and understanding of experiences. Moreover, categorization plays a vital role in the rapid acquisition of conceptual and linguistic knowledge (Waxman & Kosowski, 1990).

Designed by a certified bilingual speech-language pathologist, the Categories app focuses on six key areas vital for literacy development: categorization of everyday items and animals, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and expression. The app presents three progressive levels that challenge children while keeping the experience enjoyable:

 <li>Level One (Easy): A single image is displayed, and the child identifies the corresponding category from five options.</li>
 <li>Level Two (Medium): Three images are presented, requiring the child to discern relationships between the objects and determine their shared category.</li>
 <li>Level Three (Hard): The child must select images that fit a given category.</li>
</ol>
